What is Estate Planning?

Estate Planning is the process by which you can plan for your future should you die or become mentally incapacitated.  An effective plan allows you to control WHO will receive your assets after your death, WHEN they will receive those assets (it may be immediately or after they are older and more responsible) and the AMOUNT of assets they will receive.  It is also the means by which you can choose the person who will administer your affairs after you have died or become mentally disabled.  Estate Planning allows you to be in control of the above decisions, rather than having the government make the decisions for you.  If you do not create your own estate plan, the government will do it for you.
